New traditions: Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface

Vacheron Constantin adds to its Traditionnelle line with a pair of contemporary complete calendars

With its Traditionnelle line Vacheron Constantin pays tribute to the centuries-old tradition of haute horology in which, as the oldest watchmaker in continuous operation, it has played an essential role. But just as throughout history its relevance has been as much in driving forward innovation as respecting the craftsmanship of the past, its latest additions combine this artisanal approach with a contemporary eye for design.

This duo of complete calendar models, in pink gold and white gold respectively, brings a modern edge to an otherwise classic aesthetic. The latter is seen in the stepped round case and lugs, the fluted caseback, slim bezel and railway minute-track, paired with elegant finishing touches including the bi-faceted Dauphine-type hands and the gold baton-style hour-markers.

Providing a stark optical contrast is the impressive openworked dial, revealing the movement structure in a bold anthracite grey hue achieved through a NAC galvanic surface treatment. Its unconventional nature is reflected in the well-balanced but unusual three-part layout. To the upper section lies two discs displaying the days and the months, while a central hand points to the date around the outer ring of the dial. At 6 o’clock is the moon phase display, a piece of technical mastery that needs correcting only once every 122 years.

From both the front and back of the watch you can admire the in-house calibre 2460 QCL/2, a precise, high-frequency movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 40 hours. Completing the sophisticated look is a calfskin-grey alligator strap with pink or white-gold buckle.
