A new collaboration between Paul Smith and Mini reveals a stripped back version of the iconic car, made to explore sustainable design
In 1997 Paul Smith designed a Mini in his striking brand stripe. Two years later, to mark Mini’s 40th, 1,800 Mini Coopers went into production as a Paul Smith limited-edition. In navy, black or white, they featured pops of citrus green in the boot, glove box and even under the bonnet.
Now there is a new Paul Smith/Mini collaboration, which shows how times have changed. The Mini Strip is so called because the designer wanted to strip the iconic car right back, in the interests of exploring sustainable design.
The result is a one-off, unpainted Mini Electric incorporating environmentally friendly, recycled and recyclable materials, with an interior free of chrome and leather. And there’s still a bunch of Smith’s colourful surprise details to be discovered.
