Tissot unveils a robust new diving watch ready for the demands of the most challenging underwater excursions

Whether a casual or professional diver, it is reassuring to know that your timepiece can withstand even the most extreme of underwater conditions. With the Seastar 2000 Professional, the latest addition to Tissot’s collection of diving watches, the watchmaker has gone above and beyond by kitting it out with an array of technical, high-performance features.

Of course, water resistance is key, here able to withstand depths of up to an impressive 600 metres, and with the timepiece meeting all the criteria of the ISO 6425 standard that governs diving watches. This is partly due to its chunky and robust design, measuring in at 46mm in diameter and 16.25mm thick. As well as feeling reassuringly weighty on the wrist, the case is made from 316L-type steel, offering resistance from corrosion, and is fitted with surrounds around the crown that protects it from shocks. Meanwhile, the unidirectional bezel has been constructed with deep notches on the rim, allowing for easy handling while wearing gloves.

Speaking to its professional nature, it even comes equipped with a helium valve at 9 o’clock. Only used during saturation diving, below a depth of 100 metres, it enables the build up of the gas to escape, therefore protecting the watch and keeping its timekeeping intact.

At the heart of the watch is the Powermatic 80 calibre. Tissot has long been an innovator in the field of anti-magnetism, essential to keeping precise time, and here the movement is fitted with a new regulating balance-spring made from Nivachron, a titanium-based alloy that is completely

impervious to magnetism. The automatic calibre also offers a power reserve of 80 hours, far exceeding the norm and more than enough to keep you ticking through the most demanding of adventures.
