The watchmaker teams up with avant-garde personalisation specialist Bamford Watch Department for a special take on the iconic Aquaracer

Throughout its 160-year existence, TAG Heuer has always been an innovator, not only in its advancements in precision timekeeping but in the pioneering design of its watches. It’s this kind of out-of-the-box thinking that has led to the creation of some of the most important timepieces in horological history, and today the watchmaker continues to push the boundaries not only with its new releases but also its creative collaborations.

Two years ago, it teamed up with watch personalisation specialists Bamford Watch Department to produce a bold and avant-garde take on the TAG Heuer Monaco. Following in the footsteps of this popular timepiece the two have once again come together to create a very special version of TAG Heuer’s renowned diver’s watch the Aquaracer, limited to just 1,500 pieces.

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Bamford Limited Edition combines the distinctive look of this sporty model with Bamford Watch Department’s daring and eye-catching aesthetic to create a true statement piece. The sleek black dial is punctuated with stylish dashes of orange across the hands, bezel and flange, finished with the addition of the ‘Bamford’ name at 6 o’clock. ‘When designing this limited-edition Aquaracer, we looked to models from TAG Heuer’s past for creative inspiration,’ explains George Bamford, founder of the Bamford Watch Department. ‘The orange design elements and sporty bezel are reminiscent of the impactful TAG Heuer pieces that were launched between 1979 and 1994 and paved the way for the Aquaracer collection, which made its official debut in 2004.’

The construction of the watch itself stays true to the Aquaracer’s origins as a trusty and resilient sports timepiece. The Grade 2 titanium used for the case has been chosen not only for its tough and hard-wearing properties, but also for its hypoallergenic qualities and resistance to corrosion. The material has also been applied across the 60-minute scale, unidirectional bezel and metal bracelet.

This focus on functionality extends further still, with the dial designed for optimal legibility in all conditions, including featuring Super-Luminova coating on the hands. The powerful timepiece is water resistant to an impressive 300m, and comes equipped with the precise and reliable automatic Calibre 5 movement.

Available in TAG Heuer boutiques and online, £3,250; tagheuer.com
