Deep dive: Glashütte Original SeaQ

Two sophisticated new blue-dialled models join Glashütte Original’s line-up of diver’s watches

Last year Glashütte Original bolstered its expertise in seaworthy timepieces with the launch of both the SeaQ and the Spezialist collection. These drew from a long legacy of robust tool watches, taking inspiration from the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 dating back to 1969, the first diver’s watch made in Glashütte.

The SeaQ returns this year in two stylish blue iterations. The first features an eye-catching sunray dial with complementary coloured bezel, fitted with a scratch-resistant ceramic inlay. Speaking to its technical credentials, it meets both rigorous German and international quality standards for water and shock resistance, legibility and salt-water corrosion, as well as being kitted out with all the essential tools for deep-sea exploration. These include the rotating bezel and Super-LumiNova highlight on the triangle marking the start of the dive.

The second model adds a touch of glamour with the addition of the rotating bezel studded with 47 brilliant-cut diamonds and a sapphire that takes the place of the usual triangle mark. While this means that it doesn’t conform to certain diver’s watch standards requiring the use of luminous material on the bezel, the watch has been rigorously tested against all other criteria including water resistance and airtightness.

Both watches are equipped with the powerful and precise in-house Calibre 39-11, enclosed within a 39.5mm case that is engraved on the back with the trident maritime symbol, the Glashütte Original double-G and 20 waves, representing its 20-bar water resistance.
