Zenith turns to bold violet tones for a daring new take on the Defy 21
Compared to the fast-moving world of fashion, trends in watchmaking tend to emerge more slowly, but if there’s one that has made a noticeable impact in recent years its increasingly colourful dials. However, while green and blue hues have taken the spotlight, Zenith has chosen a lesser-seen shade for its latest timepiece: violet.
This bold colour has taken form in its Defy 21, the highest-frequency chronograph in regular production thanks to being equipped with the watchmaker’s famous El Primero calibre. In an industry first, Zenith has used violet to decorate the movement, proudly displayed through its dial, marking only the second time the Defy 21 has been presented in an open-worked version.
This burst of brightness adds a new dimension to the timepiece’s avant-garde aesthetic, contrasted with elements such as the chronograph registers and flange ring in contemporary grey. The sturdy, 44mm-diameter is constructed from titanium that has been given a matte, sandblasted finish, completing the modern look.
