The Omega Trésor has been at the forefront of dress watches since its time began

Omega’s De Ville Trésor for men could well be the ultimate dress watch. Its refined simplicity paired with timeless good looks and the way its slim gold case slides effortlessly under a folded cuff signal a standout classic. Its vintage-inspired demeanour is matched by precision engineering under the bonnet. Hell, it even has the ultimate credential: friend-of-the-brand George Clooney wore his Trésor on his wedding day. I mean, he chose it from a – just guessing here – presumably rich pickings of a wrist wear wardrobe for his special day. Distinguished and distinctive, he complements his timepiece.

The Trésor name was first used by Omega over 70 years ago and referenced the ‘treasure’ inside the watch, which in 1949 was the legendary precise 30mm calibre, and its slenderness enabled the watch to be robed in a thin gold case. That remains the same today, as the name lives on as part of the De Ville collection of super elegant pieces. Still as slim, it is also enhanced by one of Omega’s most advanced modern movements, with an impressive level of precision certified at the Master Chronometer standard. This year the family is growing, with the addition of models featuring a new subdial display and a range of colours and materials.

Over the coming months the collection will include 40mm watches in stainless steel, but launching now are models with polished cases and bezels in 18ct yellow gold or 18ct Sedna Gold, Omega’s proprietary rose gold that retains its blush. The first of a wave of new models is an 18ct yellow gold piece with grey leather strap, domed crystal silvery dial with polished hands and applied domed indices. The Sedna Gold version features a domed burgundy lacquered dial on a burgundy leather strap. The updated design includes a small seconds display at 6 o’clock, and some models – including the yellow gold version here – also have a power reserve display, keeping track of the lengthy 72-hour capacity. Sapphire crystal is used on the front and back of each piece, so the manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre can be seen. Continuing the range’s legacy of mechanical excellence, every movement and watch has been certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) as the industry’s highest standards of precision, performance and magnetic resistance.

There are a lot of bland and boring dress watches out there, but the sophisticated and characterful contemporary De Ville Trésor certainly holds dear to its name and legacy.
