AVI-8’s rugged pilot’s watches take their inspiration from history’s great aircraft and the inspirational stories behind them. With its latest release it is exploring this military connection even further with a timepiece that pays tribute to Britain’s military veterans, and is helping to raise funds for the charity Help for Heroes.
The AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane Help for Heroes Chronograph Limited Edition takes its design cues from the British Hurricane planes of World War II, which inspired the debossed roundel that tops the crown. The solidly constructed case is finished in a sleek and contemporary brushed PVD black coat, paired with a matching metal bracelet or leather strap.
Subtle vintage details come through in the dial. Its bold monochromatic colour scheme, with contrasting chronograph counters, is punctuated with highlights of navy, light blue and red. These are a nod to the Help for Heroes tri-colour motif, itself representing those who have served in the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Army.
Each of the limited run of 500 timepieces comes in a special tri-colour canvas-wrapped box, with funds raised going to Help for Heroes’ work in providing lifelong support to service personnel and military veterans who sustained injury or illness during service.
