Panerai and Brabus, the German luxury automotive and boat after-market tuning specialists, are back with their third limited-edition Submersible collaboration. The pair got together back in 2021, with Panerai using the partnership as a chance to unveil the first-ever skeletonisation of its P4001 movement, characterised by its off-centre micro rotor. A year later, for their next collaboration, Panerai pioneered a case made from titanium that was created using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) – a 3D-printing process whereby metal particles are sintered together rather than melted. Now for 2023, Brabus is celebrating the launch of a new luxury powerboat in its Marine Shadow collection with a companion Submersible S Brabus Verde Militare Edition in the vessel’s signature military green.

Appropriately for a watch designed to weather the high seas, this time around the case is made from Carbotech, Panerai’s proprietary blend of carbon fibre that uses thin sheets of said fibre compressed with PEEK (polyether ether ketone), a colourless, organic polymer, as a binding agent. It is more resistant to corrosion and lighter than steel or titanium, which is handy given the substantial 47mm case diameter. The black case is complemented by the dashes of military green, used on the hands, rehaut, rubberised crown, am/pm indicator, and small-seconds sub dial. Panerai has also used its particular method of skeletonisation to take the bridges and plates back to their barest form, while still managing to ensure that the date is only visible through its window rather than having the entire date wheel on display. The watch comes with two strap options – a bi-material version in calf leather with a melded rubber base and a second, sportier version, in military green rubber. Panerai even supplies you with a screwdriver so you can easily remove the buckle. Limited to 200 pieces, it comes with a substantial price tag, but if you have the boat, wouldn’t you want the watch to match?
