TAG Heuer and Porsche officially signed a partnership last year, but the two have a shared history that goes back decades. Both no strangers to the high-octane world of motor racing, they were inspired by one of the most dangerous and notorious races, the Carrera Panamericana. For Porsche, this came in the form of its sports car the 911 Carrera, launched in 1964. And just a year prior, TAG Heuer also looked to the event for the name of one of its most iconic racing watches.
The duo’s latest horological collaboration reflects the daring and sporty aesthetic of these designs, expressed in the new TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition. Produced in a run of 1,500 pieces, its sleek black look is boldly contrasted by highlights that take their colour from Porsche’s yellow racing Pantone. These are seen on the marque’s logo on the bezel and on the crown, as well as touches across the dial and second hand. Plunge the watch into darkness and it also glows yellow thanks to the matching-hued Super-LumiNova.
Elsewhere, the deep black of the case has been achieved through a hard-wearing DLC treatment. Meanwhile, TAG Heuer’s designers have played with textures of the shade, the dial featuring a subtle glittery effect inspired by the metallic bodywork of cars, while the sub-dials have an asphalt look to them to further drive home its racing connections.
And, like a high-end sports car, what’s under the bonnet is just as important. Here the timepiece is fitted with some of TAG Heuer’s finest in-house watchmaking in the Calibre Heuer 02, delivering precision and reliability alongside a considerable power reserve of 80 hours.
