Both Panerai and Brabus are no strangers to creating high-performance marine machines as striking in design as they are well engineered. As Brabus unveils the latest in the line-up of its high-tech Shadow boats at the 2022 Palma International Boat Show, the duo are celebrating with a special-edition Submersible timepiece, limited to 200 pieces, as suited for relaxed days at sea as more high-octane adventures.

Its contemporary look takes its cues from Brabus’s signature line, its moody tones highlighted with blues and greys across the architectural dial, including Super-LumiNova on the indices and hands. Despite its dark appearance, it can’t help making a statement on the wrist, coming in at a chunky 47mm diameter and with captivating details across the case. The latter is crafted from titanium using a direct metal laser sintering technique, a 3D-printing technology that produces a result that is tough yet lightweight and wearable. Providing a subtle contrast is the Carbotech bezel, a variation on carbon fibre that has an intriguing, variegated pattern unique to each watch.

At the heart of the Panerai Submersible S Brabus Blue Shadow Edition lies the equally innovative new P.4001/S calibre. This skeletonised movement comes equipped with a number of performance-enhancing features, including the oscillating rotor made from high-density tungsten, enabling the timepiece to be thinner in profile. The one-piece off-centred oscillating weight allows for bi-directional winding, meanwhile the automatic watch is efficiently wound while wearing thanks to the two spring barrels. And, as you’d expect from Panerai, it has all you need for a serious diving watch, including a reliable three-day power reserve and water resistance to 300 metres.
