TAG Heuer has been the global lead in luxury smartwatches since launching its Connected model back in 2015. The first Connected Golf Edition debuted four years ago, building on the brand’s heritage in the sporting world, and the latest version, the TAG Heuer Connected Watch Calibre E4 Golf Edition, leads the luxury smartwatch field. Earlier this year this popular timepiece was given a technical update with the addition of a new automated shot tracker, redesigned golf software and a magnetic ball marker built into the strap. The watch delivers in two areas, in both elegance and functionality for sporting performance, with access to TAG Heuer’s growing “ecosystem” of exclusive sports activities, wellness apps and dapper watch faces, at home on a golf course as well as for everyday life.
This 45mm version is distinctly sporty, featuring a bold ceramic bezel, giving the look of a high-end timepiece, highlighted with the signature green of the Golf Edition. The crown, used to scroll the map in the built-in golf app, is large and stands out from the watch so it’s easy to control with just a fingertip while on the golf course.
The redesigned interface also makes it easy to control the watch’s golf functions. These include high resolution 2D maps displaying hazards and distances on more than 40,000 golf courses around the world. Whatever level the player, wearers can up their game. That includes professional golfer and TAG Heuer ambassador Tommy Fleetwood, who is impressed with the functions: ‘The Drive Shot Tracking helps you track your most important shot and the integrated ball marker is so easy to use and store away.’
The watch intelligently detects swings, allowing users to track their performance in the app without having to hand activate the function. The automatic shot tracking also aids the Driving Range feature by providing the app with extra data. The Driving Range features a “heat map” for every hole, showing where shots landed on previous rounds, allowing an overview of strategies and help. The automatic shot detection means users collect more information on their clubs’ performance too, meaning the app’s club recommendations are as precise and informative as possible.
And, having improved your game, you can make use of the 3D maps tech. The iOS app generates a video you can share (or gloat over) with friends.
The watch comes with exclusive golf faces inspired by the sport and also an additional easily interchangeable black strap, making for elegant après golf wristwear. Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer CEO, has listened to customers to keep making improvements, both technical and aesthetic, to the line: ‘Our customers play golf more than any sport and golf has become an important pillar of the Connected watch: the Calibre E4 is built to be a watch that wearers don’t take off when they leave the golf course.’
