The Seamaster Aqua Terra collection, originally launched some 21 years ago, is a tribute to the brand’s maritime heritage, since its first dive watch was released in 1932. Blending city chic with sporting style, Aqua Terra is a versatile family with superior tech credentials – the collection is powered by new Co-Axial Master Chronometer movements giving big levels of magnetic resistance. The Aqua Terra Shades collection comes in both 38mm and 34mm sizes in polished steel, and now there are two solid gold models made from Omega’s in-house alloys, which have high resistance to fading. The 38mm model case and bracelet are made from 18 carat Sedna Gold, Omega’s red-gold alloy, and the 34mm is created from 18 carat Moonshine Gold – the pale yellow-gold alloy.

But the star of the Aqua Terra show is the palette, taking inspiration from nature, with hues referencing ocean to earth, from Atlantic Blue to Terracotta and Lavender. The dials are made from brass, then “sun-brushed” outwards from the centre, and each is given a layer of lacquer for the appearance of extra depth. It’s down to innovations in technology that have allowed for the full spectrum of colour in the dials.

Actors Eddie Redmayne and Zoë Kravitz as brand ambassadors have been bringing the theme to life, which is about expressing your individual look through your own choice of colour.

Kravitz, who starred in Big Little Lies and The Batman, can’t easily select her favourite, as she’s aware her mood changes constantly and the colour choices would reflect that. ‘I love all the colours. I think if I had it my way, I would just have all of them so I can pick and choose,’ she says. ‘I think some days, you feel like one colour, and some days you feel like another. I love fashion. It’s a form of self-expression. And I think it should be playful.’

Award-winning Eddie Redmayne, who recently starred in the London theatre production of Cabaret and is in pre-production for a TV version of The Day of the Jackal, is a long-term fan. He explains that his father owned an Omega and he’s always been ‘a watch man’.

‘What I love about Omega, but specifically the Aqua Terra,’ he says, ‘is that there’s a gentle elegance to them. And yet they sing, they punch above simplicity. I love the fact that these new colours have a vibrancy that just makes them pop. I love the colour that I’m wearing now which is the Sandstone. I also love the Terracotta.’

But for all his enthusiasm, perhaps he’s an unlikely choice of ambassador for this particular line. ‘Full disclosure: I’m colour blind,’ he reveals. ‘So I see fully in colour, but I just confuse some of the colours. But probably how I view colours differs from how you see them. But I love the uniqueness of these watches; they don’t seem like obvious choices.’ And what would he style them with? ‘Because they do the singing, something quite classic. I wear something pretty simple and let the watch do the talking.
