Watchmakers often receive praise for their precision, technical mastery and innovation, but they seldom pick up awards based purely on their design. For Nomos Glashütte, however, this aspect has always been central to their overall philosophy, and over the decades its timepieces have become acclaimed in no small part due to their uniquely industrial, Bauhaus-esque aesthetic.
The latest addition to its long line of accolades comes from the renowned Red Dot Design Award, which has selected the Tangente Sport for its highest distinction, the ‘Best of the Best’. The watch now sits proudly as part of the exhibition Milestones in Contemporary Design in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany.
The timepiece is a dive watch, but not as we traditionally know it; instead of the typical bulky bezels and rugged aesthetics, here Nomos has introduced to the genre a chic, streamlined model that can effortlessly make the transition from boardroom to beach. It takes the Tangente – the watchmaker’s popular first model – as its base, trimming it down to make it suitable for sport.
Nomos’ expert in-house watchmakers and designers then set about equipping it with all technical features required for aquatic adventures. The watch is waterproof to 300m thanks to its reinforced sapphire crystal, special gaskets and robust case, which protect the manufacture DUW 6101 movement housed within. Meanwhile, the contemporary, clean dial ensures optimum legibility in all conditions with the addition of Super-LumiNova on the hour indexes and hands.
The attention to detail continues right down to the bracelet, developed especially for the model. Comprising 145 steel pieces and fastened with a deployment clasp, the secure and stylish design offers both supreme comfort and peace of mind wherever you wear your watch.
