As summer draws to a close, Ulysse Nardin is injecting some much-welcomed vibrancy into its collections with the addition of two new multi-hued special editions. While their rainbow bezels can’t fail to catch the eye, the spectrum of colours has been chosen for more than just its statement impact.
It takes its inspiration from the iridescent nature of silicium, a material endowed with incredible properties including resistance to corrosion and magnetic fields, while also being light and durable. Ideal for watchmaking components, Ulysse Nardin pioneered its use in this field with the introduction of the Freak in 2001, the first timepiece to incorporate silicium escapement components.
It has since been used to enhance several of its calibres, including the Blast Tourbillion’s UN-172 and the Lady Diver’s UN-816. In a fitting tribute, these two models have been chosen for this vivid makeover. For the former, this comes in the shape of a sleek black take with a hard-wearing case made from DLC titanium and sealed with a polished and sandblasted ceramic polished upper section. A total of 50 rubies and sapphire baguettes have been added to this contemporary design, limited to 50 pieces.
The Lady Diver Rainbow comes in two contrasting options in black and white, each a limited edition of 300. Each is set with 40 stones (ruby, aquamarine, topaz, tsavorite and sapphire) around the unidirectional bezel, with added sparkle in the form of 11 diamonds for the indices. Despite the high jewellery appearance, they retain their diving watch credentials, including a water resistance of 300 metres.
