In 1959, Certina introduced its ‘DS Concept’, standing for ‘double security’. This idea embodies the robust nature of the construction of its watches, which extends from the reinforced case to an intricate system of seals that protects the movement. A testament to the rigorous watchmaking showcased by Certina over the decades, its watches have accompanied adventurers on the first ascent of a Himalayan peak to traversing the extreme depths of the oceans.
Last year saw the brand celebrate the 60th anniversary of this statement of quality with the DS-1 Big Date, an elegant sporty dresswatch that showcases Certina’s modern-day commitment to innovative watchmaking. It comes equipped with the Powermatic 80 movement, offering an impressive power reserve of 80 hours and featuring a new type of balance spring made from Nivachron, a material developed with the Swatch Group. The material’s combination of improved resistance to magnetic fields, shock resistance and resistance to fluctuations in temperature adds to the highly precise timekeeping of the movement.
The timepiece features a clean and sophisticated dial, with big date indication at 6 o’clock. The look is finished with a sunburst dial, which for 2020 will be available in chic grey and blue options. It is available with stainless-steel mesh or leather strap options, which are easily interchanged.
