As summer turns into autumn, now is the time to start thinking about our new-season wardrobes. Investment, timeless pieces designed to last well beyond the season never go out of fashion, and you can’t go wrong with the exceptional fine scarves, stoles and throws by British manufacturer Joshua Ellis.
Its name may infer a very modern brand, but Joshua Ellis has been making exclusive fabrics in its Yorkshire mill since 1767. Originally established to produce heavier woollen cloths for warmth and durability, the company’s heritage of traditional manufacturing techniques has, over the centuries, been applied to modern machinery.
The mill turns the world’s finest fibres, such as cashmere, vicuña, lambswool and camel hair into luxury fabrics and accessories, produced in biannual collections, as well as bespoke designs for clients.
As fibre specialists, each scarf, stole, throw or fabric undergoes 21 different stages of production with a final, detailed inspection to ensure high quality. With autumn in full swing and winter in our sights, it’s worth noting that current collections have an unexpected twist, with scarves and stoles in traditional checks in contemporary colour combinations, all made from the softest of materials.
