Not content with being a style icon, model, actor, philanthropist, business mogul to rival Jay-Z and – oh, yes – one of Britain’s most famous sporting idols, David Beckham is adding yet another string to his bow in a new role for Maserati.
The luxury Italian sports car brand has recently announced Becks as their new global brand ambassador, citing the former footballer as the ‘perfect partner’ as Maserati ‘drives our brand forward into our new era’.
In the accompanying short film, Beckham finds himself eschewing an exhausting schedule of back-to-back business meetings in favour of going on an exhilarating jaunt in Maserati’s ultimate performance SUV, the Levante Trofeo. Shot by indie darling Harmony Korine (writer of cult classic Kids and director of Spring Breakers), the film aims to capture ‘the thrill of rule breaking’ with the backdrop of a Miami freeway.
Commenting on the new partnership, Maserati chief marketing officer, Paolo Tubito, said: ‘Maserati is driven to challenge the status quo, being innovative by nature, powered by passion, and unique by design. The partnership with David is the embodiment of all these values.’
And calling the new partnership an ‘exciting time’, David Beckham described Maserati as ‘an iconic Italian brand which shares my appreciation for the very best innovation and design’.
‘I’m looking forward to working closely with the brand at such a pivotal time in their history and continuing their growth on a global scale.’
