The virtual Mexican pop-up has teamed up with the renowned fried chicken champions to create the ultimate Casa Clucker taco

Food and Drink 10 Mar 2021

Background
Channelling old-world Mexico, Casa Calavera is the new cantina concept developed by the Hakkasan Group. And, for March, it is bringing its authentic Mexican flavours to fried chicken stalwarts Mother Clucker, who gained popularity serving their tea brined, buttermilk soaked and twice battered chicken from a converted US Army ambulance at Truman Brewery in 2013. Available to order via Deliveroo, the Casa Clucker taco is the perfect antidote for anyone looking for an indulgent street-food fix.

The food
Brummell ordered two tacos and a selection of sides, including charro beans with black and white bean and tomato, Mexican street corn with tajin spices and sweet potato. Everything arrived in fully recyclable packaging and the tacos were upright in a handy pocket. Two tacos per person with sides is plenty. The soft tortilla encases a mix of flavours and textures that can only be described as deliciously indulgent. The succulent and crispy buttermilk chicken pieces are full of spicy flavour without being too hot or greasy, and when combined with avocado, crunchy kale, red cabbage slaw and topped with fiery Mother Clucker hot sauce, are elevated to a Mexican street-food feast worth shouting about. The sides were also beautifully prepared and were the perfect accompaniment, especially the sweet potato wedges.

The price
Casa Clucker Taco £14 for two.

The verdict
The perfect way to elevate a Friday lunchtime, Casa Clucker tacos are full of flavour and texture and transport you to a bustling Mexican street with every bite.
