Leap frog

Add some fun to your watch wardrobe with this special Kermit-inspired ProPilot X edition

Swiss watchmaker Oris, maker of mechanical timekeepers since 1904, says the first function of every one of its watches is to bring joy. It seems to have nailed it with this latest release. The company has teamed up with Disney’s The Muppets to celebrate Kermit and has brought us a date with the ever-cheerful frog.

Kermit the frog

This is no kids’ novelty watch – Oris has created a special edition of its slick ProPilot X Calibre 400, a no-nonsense aviation watch with an in-house automatic winding date movement that was six years in development. It offers superior anti-magnetic protection, a five-day power reserve, 100m water resistance, lumed hour indices, hour and minute hands and comes with a 10-year warranty. The 39mm case and bracelet are made from titanium – with satin and sandblasted finishes – which makes it light on the wrist; all very grown-up.

The bright – yes, very bright – green dial, designed by Oris to match Kermit’s unmistakable colour completely, will make you chipper, but hang on for the first day of every month when Kermit’s grinning face appears in the date window to mark a new month, as “Kermit Day”. Jim Henson, The Muppets’ creator, described Kermit’s character as ‘kind of easy-going, very likeable… sometimes slightly a wise guy’. Henson’s son explained that the characterisation of the frog was based around his father’s personality: ‘wry intelligence, a little bit of naughtiness, loved everyone around him and also loved a good prank’. What’s not to like? You are guaranteed to smile every time you glance at your wrist.
