Panerai brings together two innovative materials for the first time in this sophisticated diving watch

When it comes to serious, technical diving watches, few know their stuff better than Panerai. With a long history in producing military-grade models supplied to the likes of the Royal Italian Navy, the fact that their timepieces are rugged, precise and thoroughly waterproof is a given. With this latest addition to the Submersible family they’ve taken a classic, functional piece and given it a contemporary aesthetic twist that looks just as good out of the water.

The Panerai Submersible Goldtech Orocarbo – 44mm brings together two of the watchmaker’s pioneering materials for the first time: Goldtech and Carbotech. The case is made from the former, a gold alloy made with a percentage of copper and enriched with platinum. Not only does this lend the material an alluring rich red hue but also prevents it from oxidising, therefore extending the life of the watch.

This is contrasted with the matte-black Carbotech, deployed across functional elements including the bezel, crown and crown bridge lever. The highly robust material is made from thin sheets of carbon fibres compressed at a controlled temperature under high pressure together with a high-end polymer, giving it further durability and strength.

These innovations come together with technical features to make a tough timepiece ready for any underwater adventure. Water-resistant to 300 metres, the watch is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel and screwed caseback, as well as luminescent markers offering optimal legibility in all conditions. It comes powered by the powerful in-house P.900 calibre, offering a three-day power reserve.
