Discover Sophie Ashby’s debut fabric range

The award-winning interior designer has unveiled her first foray into textile design with The Jocasta Collection

London-based interior designer Sophie Ashby has turned her hand to fabrics for the first time in a debut textile collection under her Sister by Studio Ashby brand. Described by the designer as ‘part playground, part shop’, Sister by Studio Ashby features a collection of ‘future heirlooms, bespoke furniture, art and accessories’ carefully curated by the umbrella brand and Ashby’s keen eye.

The new Jocasta Collection has been made in collaboration with London-based Yarn Collective, a sustainable manufacturer working with only natural compositions. The collection itself takes inspiration from the natural world, as well as crafts and ancient traditions, but with a global twist. The Disa fabric, for example, takes design cues from the hardy orchids found growing on Table Mountain in South Africa. “Afua” is also African-inspired, this time featuring a modern update on traditional Kente cloth in homage to Ashby’s husband (fashion designer Charlie Casely-Hayford) and his Ghanaian heritage.

The collection is named after influential interior designer, writer and cook Jocasta Innes and her former home in Spitalfields, a Georgian-era townhouse that she saved from dereliction and completely renovated in the 1990s. It was later owned by Ashby and her family, and is where the idea for the fabrics collection began.

Speaking of the collection, Ashby commented: ‘I couldn’t be more excited to be unveiling our first fabric collection. The design process has been a truly organic labour of love, piecing together memories and threads of inspiration from over the years to create a capsule of designs that I hope our Sisterhood will love and enjoy in their own homes for many years to come.’

The new collection is currently on display at Blewcoat School in west London, a refurbished Grade I-listed building owned by the National Trust and currently home to Studio Ashby and Sister, and is available to view by appointment.
